About me

Gunilla Sandberg
Color has always been important to me and it is what gives me the most satisfaction and sense of reward when I paint. Painting for me is me a way to let go of all other thoughts and just focus on letting the image come to life.
I mainly paint in watercolor but also acrylic ink. Sometimes I also add effect colors, chalk, charcoal or mix different techniques.
Seeing the pigment come to life with the water and moving across the paper is so exciting!
I like to try different materials and techniques, and because of that my works change both in motif and size.
I usually get my inspiration from nature - I love the sea and cliffs as much as plains, mountains and forests. Above all, the environments here on the Kulla peninsula where I live inspire me, but I find inspiration in many different locations and enviroments. The motifs in my paintings are usually my inner images, which gives the viewer a lot of room for their own interpretation.
Sometimes I paint completely abstract or pure fantasy motifs.
I am mainly self-taught, but have followed courses on the Internet and often get both knowledge and inspiration on Youtube but also in literature and through contact with other artists. In the autumn of 2018, I took a 10-week distance course at Ädelfors Folkhögskola under the direction of artist Eva Magnusson. In 2020 and 2021, I took several courses in abstract and intuitive painting for Lovisa Limsedt at Medborgarskolan.
In the summer of 2020 I retired after 40 years as a teacher and now I am devoting myself even more to painting.
